Researchers say specific amino acid combo may protect against dementia

The specific combination of essential amino acids can help protect against the development of dementia, according to a new study from Japanese researchers with the National Institute for quantum science and technology. The research key is protein and the role he plays in brain health, among others, with researchers noted that a low protein diet accelerates the level of brain degeneration in mice.

This study involves supplements called Amino LP7, which contains seven essential amino acids. Researchers previously studied the supplement, found that it offers an increase in cognitive function. This latest study views whether the same combination of amino acids can offer protection for the development of dementia in old age.

One of the major scientists of the research, Dr. Makoto Higuchi, explained:

In older individuals, a low diet of protein is related to maintenance of poor brain function. Amino acids are a building block of protein. So, we want to understand whether supplementation with essential amino acids can protect the parent’s brain from dementia, and if yes, what mechanism will contribute to this protection effect.

This study involves lab mice, first establishes that a low protein diet in the Alzheimer’s model reveals worse neuron connectivity and faster brain degeneration. Mice were given amino acid supplements, which according to the researchers reversed the problem. Additional research shows that LP7 reduces brain degeneration by reducing the death rate of neurons.

Improvements are observed even though the presence of sustainable plaque knows in the brain, it is possible to help protect the brain from degeneration regardless. Among other things, scientists find that this amino acid reduces brain inflammation and prevents inflammatory compounds called Kynurenine from entering the brain.
